Largest Trophy Made Of Can Tabs
Many residents in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC collected a total of 380,000 ring tabs from canned drinks. This raised $40,000 from some corporate sponsors to purchase taxi vouchers to help needy residents, such as those wheelchair-bound and the elderly. 10,888 pieces of the tabs, in gold and silver, were crafted into a 110m-tall trophy by community leader Kenny Chua. Renowned rangoli artist Vijaya Mohan worked with 25 groups, mainly welfare organisations and schools to design 500 pieces of artwork using glass marbles and paint on acrylic boards. Soldiers from the Infantry Training Institute in Jurong were given a break from their exercises for a Deepavali celebration on 24 Oct 2016. About 50 men lighted up 2016 tealights to form the words ‘Infantry Training Institute, Delivering The Best, Happy Deepavali 2016’. Taman Jurong IAEC organised a Deepavali carnival at the CC on 22 Oct 2016. Other than the glamorous stage performances, it had the chefs from Springleaf Prata Place attempting to make Singapore’s largest murtabak. At the event was displayed a 22m long tteok, the longest Korean rice cake ever seen in Singapore.
