52-year-old artist Akira Takahashi and a crew of 8 Civil Defence National Servicemen constructed a giant lantern and floated it on the Singapore River for the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations on 28 Sep 2001. The 13m high and 7m wide lantern weighed a ton and took a month to complete.
