Teochew Federation (Singapore) & Ngee Ann Cultural Centre celebrated Dongzhi (winter solstice) together at the Teochew Building on 16 Dec 2017. Tallest Christmas Tree Made Of Bottled Plants
Some Punggol East residents spent three months to grow plants in cut plastic bottles. The plants needed no watering as the improvised pots had wicks and enclosed water reservoirs. 1,628 bottled plants were arranged on a wooden layered structure to form a 3.7m Christmas tree. On 16 Dec 2017, shoppers at FairPrice Xtra in Jurong Point were given cellophane-wrapped packets of brownies to decorate the 2.5m tall Christmas tree. After 2,000 packets were placed on the tree, and the record declared, the brownies were taken off and given to shoppers. Read More »
