White Cane Day is celebrated worldwide every year since 1964. The cane is an important symbol of independence for the visually impaired. On 15 Oct 2016, the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped and Perennial Real Estate Holdings marked the special day with a carnival and a mass walk. 259 visually handicapped and supporters took a one-km walk with white canes within the CHIJMES grounds.
