Singapore Heart Foundation together with ITE College West conducted the largest-ever salt taste threshold test at the college on 1 Oct 2024 to mark National Heart Week/World Heart Day. The objective was to raise awareness about the importance of consuming less sodium. Participants had to taste 7 strips of paper containing increasing concentrations of salt, from 0 to 1.6 mg per sq cm. Among the 980 staff and students, about 35 percent of them have a salt taste threshold of 1 mg/sq cm and above, which are the fourth- to seventh-highest concentration levels.
