Largest Portrait Made Of Inscribed Rice Grains

Kannada Sangha (Singapore) is an association for the Kannada-speaking community here, which numbers more than 3,000 families. At its cultural event held at Singapore Polytechnic on 18 Aug 2018, 150 participants took part in writing on rice grains with fine brushes. They were inspired by ‘Ricegrain’ Venkatesh who has been practising the unique art for 30 years. The inscribed grains were then glued individually on a board to form the picture of Basavanna, a 12th-century Kannada philosopher and social reformer. When completed, it measured 46 cm by 24 cm made of 2,125 grains. Later, Venkatesh set the record of writing all 26 English alphabets on a single grain of rice in 43 sec.
