In the last 20 years, Akira Takahashi has built more than half a dozen record-breaking super-sized lanterns. His latest is for Radin Mas SMC’s Mid-Autumn Festival celebration at the Redhill market and hawker centre on 29 Sep 2012. For several months he has been collecting used plastic cooking oil bottles and painting each one individually. They were assembled into a gigantic lantern measuring 3.4m high and the diameters 2.5 to 3.5 wide.
