National Service plays an important role in facilitating inter-ethnic integration between soldiers to achieve a common national purpose. On 20 Jul 2018, 314 soldiers from the 1st Army Maintenance Base (1AMB) gathered at the Padang, where race riots took place in 1964, to commemorate Racial Harmony Day. Together, they formed ‘1 AMB’ with their hands in the iconic ‘4-hand hold’ to signify our nation’s strength in social unity and multicultural harmony. ’40’ was also included to mark the unit’s establishment in 1978.
