‘Together We Celebrate, Together We Paint Our Future’ is the West Coast constituency’s way of marking the 47th National Day. On 12 Aug 2012, 47 walls around Clementi West St 1 and 2 were painted by 616 volunteers who were intent on making their neighbourhood more vibrant and colourful. CCCs of Admiralty, Marsiling, Sembawang, Woodgrove and Woodlands marked the closing of the month-long Bazar Raya Utara by having more than 100 pieces of roti john displayed in a single line measuring 32.3m. The bread, believed to have its origins around this vicinity, was later shared amongst participants and visitors at the event. Yew Tee Community’s 47th National Day dinner on 11 Aug 2012 came with a mammoth Singapore flag built with red and white balloons. On 11 Aug 2012 at Bedok Central, East Coast GRC celebrated National Day with a sports fiesta. Residents played various games and winners received ping pong balls which they could use towards the formation of the National flag. Residents around the Kaki Bukit CC happily lined up to take turns putting icing on the cupcakes to form the Singapore flag on 9 Aug 2012. A simple act of collecting ring tabs from used drink cans by Greenridge Primary School will help people who are physically challenged. Before the ring tabs were to be sent for recycling into the making prosthetic limbs, they were used to beat the current Singapore record and to mark National Day. Baby’s Day Out was organised by the NTUC U-Family on 4 Aug 2012 at the Lawn@Marina Bay. It was meant to be a day for babies and toddlers to celebrate the nation’s birthday with their parents in style. Advent sponsored 1,120 milk bottles to make a Singapore flag, measuring 2.1m by 3.2m.
